Once, there was a little girl named Michiko. She lived with her father and mother in a small rural town located in Japan. Michiko also had a bright orange cat whose name was Ayame. Michiko and Ayame were the best of friends, and Ayame would follow Michiko to wherever she went. Every night, Michiko and Ayame would stare at the beautiful night time sky. They both loved the sparkling stars and the glowing moon.
Over the years, as Michiko became an adult, she slowly stopped looking at the night time sky. And Ayame abandoned it too, as she always wanted to be with Michiko. But Ayame was becoming older, and her health was rapidly declining. One day, Ayame stopped eating or drinking, and just layed there on the ground, drowsily observing the world. Michiko saw, and tried to coax Ayame into eating but she wouldn’t budge.
As dusk fell, Ayame’s breathing became shallower and slower as Michiko’s worries deepened. Then, Ayame’s breath stopped, as the last of life seeped out of her and gracefully floated into the heavens. Michiko began to weep over Ayame, and mourn the death of her. But then she looked into the sky and saw an orange star, shining so brightly, that then calmed her down, as she knew that Ayame was with the stars, resting in peace.
